Wool Felt Wheel Application

Wool Felt Wheel Application

Polishing Stainless Steel and Precision Hardware Products with Wool Felt Wheels

Application Scenarios:

For everyday stainless steel products such as tableware, vacuum flasks, and crafts, felt wheels are used for final fine polishing to achieve a bright mirror-like finish. This smooth, glossy surface not only enhances appearance but also makes the products easier to clean and more resistant to corrosion.

For precision instruments, hardware molds, and similar components, felt wheels can effectively remove minor surface imperfections, delivering a smooth and level finish without compromising the dimensional accuracy of the workpiece.

Key Operating Points:

1) Must be used with polishing compounds: Felt wheels themselves have no abrasive cutting ability. They must be used in conjunction with polishing wax, polishing powder (such as cerium oxide), or polishing liquid. These media become embedded in the gaps between the felt fibers and interact with the metal surface through high-speed rotation to achieve the polishing effect.

2) Step-by-step polishing: A progressive approach from coarse to fine is generally adopted. First, a felt wheel with coarse polishing wax is used to remove visible sanding marks. Then, a second felt wheel is used with fine polishing wax (or a mirror-finish compound) to carry out the final gloss-enhancing step.

3) Control speed and pressure: The recommended operating speed is typically in the range of 1,200–2,000 rpm (revolutions per minute). During operation, care should be taken to control the applied pressure and avoid excessive heat buildup, as high-speed friction may cause localized overheating or even burn damage to the metal surface.
